Contemporary art isn’t strong passion of mine- maybe because at first sight I don’t get it, at least not in the right way probably and there is no one near me at that moment, who would explain it to me- how to look and what to see and what is its message. But strangely I still like to visit museums and gallerias with contemporary art- in each foreign city I have travelled, there was modern gallery on my intinerary. Maybe the reason is that I’m still interested in art in general and I can’t miss a chance to see it. And I also expect that the building which holds this modern items, would be interesting in architectural and design way.
So that is the main reason I go to contemporary museums. I take my camera along and I take time to look at the architectural exterior and then slowly take a walk through all rooms and halls and observate misunderstood things, but mostly I study the interior and how the circulation path is designed and how the light is spread through spaces. I was blown away with Guggenheim Museum in New York, beacuse it has such great concept of the path through the whole museum, I hardly even noticed pictures on the wall.
These photographs were taken in Museum of Contemporary Art in Lisbon. I was outside this place multiple times, but thirdly I took time to pay visit on the inside. It is located in area of Belem, near the gorgeous monastery (photographs of it maybe in some future post) and it is pretty huge building, divided into three wings- kind of like letter E. I acctually discovered some nice installations inside and pop art paintings and really big models and then there was some stuff which was just funny- like the lobster telephone- and between pictures there is even a self-portrait. Art places and art things always makes me wanna sketch and create something. So this is another plus, why to visit contemporary museum, even if you don’t get them- they inspire.
